What is profhilo treatment?
Profhilo® is a unique injectable skin treatment designed to hydrate, tighten and rejuvenate the skin in the face, neck, chest or hands. It is similar to dermal fillers in that it is made from hyaluronic acid, however it functions very differently. Where fillers are like ‘jelly’, Profhilo® is more like ‘honey’ – it does not change the shape of your face but spreads evenly through the skin hydrating and remodelling it from within.
Profhilo® is a two step treatment, with the second treatment performed 4 weeks after the first. The second step is essential to gain longer term results from the increased collagen and elastin production which improves skin laxity.
The treatment itself involves a few small strategically placed skin injections that only take 5 minutes. With no down-time needed, you can go straight back to your usual activities and can expect more hydrated, tighter, glowing skin within a few weeks of your treatment.
What is the difference between Profhilo and dermal fillers?
Most dermal fillers are made of a substance called hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is found within our skin but depletes as we age and helps to maintain the moisture in our skin and aids regeneration. Additionally, hyaluronic acid behaves like a sponge, drawing and retaining up to 1,000 times its own weight in water; this means that the skin is plump, smooth, and hydrated.
However, hydration is not usually the main reason we treat the skin with hyaluronic dermal fillers. For filler treatments, the hyaluronic acid your practitioner uses comes in the form of a soft gel which is strategically placed with a fine needle.
What dose profhilo treatment involve in your skin?
Treatment with Profhilo improves skin tone, texture, hydration and overall radiance. It can help to increase firmness and elasticity and promote healthier and softer-looking skin. Profhilo is most commonly used for facial areas, but can also be used to rejuvenating the neck, decollete, arms, knees and hands.
Profhilo is injected just below the skin’s surface over 2 sessions 4 weeks apart. After injection it disperses quickly beneath the skin to improve hydration, without any need for massage or risk of leaving lumps or nodules. Profhilo is absorbed within a 2cm radius of its injection site, so to treat the face only 10 injection points are needed in total.
